Bovine ophthalmology

PINK EYE

DIAGNOSTICS

Diagnosis is generally made from clinical signs.

TREATMENT

Topically therapy with cloxacillin is generally effective. Use of ophthalmological formulations is preferred as the duration of action is longer. Subpalpebral administration of penicillin is useful in severe cases.

Covering the eye with a patch aids in recovery and reduces transmission of disease.

DURATION OF THERAPY

One application of cloxacillin ointment may be sufficient. Severe cases may need treatment every 48 hours (1-2 additional applications).
